The salon on N. College Avenue is a small business owned by Selinna Kapu, who shared her salon's inventory loss and physical damage on Instagram.

'July 17th my small business was targeted, broken into and stolen from,' Kapu wrote in the caption of an Instagram video, sharing a list of items that had been taken in the robbery. 'We have a lead on the suspect from our investigator... If you see any of these items or have heard anything about this incident. You can send an email to Gemsalon.boutique@gmail.com.'

Owning a small business is difficult enough, especially coming out of a pandemic that limited personal salon services. Adding a targeted crime on top of that is devastating for a business owner. If you'd like to help Kapu and Gem Salon recover, there are ways you can help.

  • Shop the Boutique - Shop small this summer! The boutique has been restocked with back stock so that the shelves aren't bare. Gem will have a sale on those items 'in hope that this will keep us going,' Kapu said.
  • Book a Service - Gem offers lash extensions, brow services and more, and it's a great space with a 'vintage and speakeasy vibe.' Treat yourself, but also support a business that's rebuilding from a loss.
  • Donte to Gem - 'If you’d like to make a donation you can visit us at the salon,' Gem's Instagram says. You can also contact the salon; see below.
