I learn something new everyday. Today I learned something about the history of country music that I did not know. There have been many songs that stick out as songs everyone knows. Hank Williams had many of those. We all know "Move It On Over" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" but did you know that "I'm So Lonesome..." was never even a single or a hit?

I was surprised to learn that Hank recorded that song on this date in 1949 but it was a "B" side to the single "My Bucket's Got a Hole In It". I would have bet that it had been a number one hit but it wasn't even a charted single until 1966 when another version of it was released. Elvis once said that this was the saddest song he had ever heard. I agree. Here is that all time great country hit that was never a hit.
