Ah, yes. The New Year's resolution of losing weight. You're serious about it this time, right? We all are. We really want that weight to come off and are willing to do anything to do it.

I have battled weight my entire life. TWICE I have lost more than 100lbs. While I might get a smattering of applause for that, I'm a bit more embarrassed that I allowed my weight to get so high that I needed to lose that much. As of this writing, I am in need of losing 50lbs. That process has already begun.

US News released their list of the "Best Diets" for 2018. They went through them all and came up with different categories, such as: "Best Diets Overall", "Best Weight-Loss Diets, "Best Fast Weight-Loss Diets", and "Easiest Diets to Follow", just to name a few. There is a plan in that feature that I have used and it did indeed work.

I have learned a lot about my body's chemistry (I have a thyroid condition that forces me to take medication everyday) and how, by eating the right things in the right amounts, my body can burn fat and lose weight. It was when I learned the difference between being hungry and starving that I excelled and lost the weight. But I am here to tell you that during the early stages of any diet, you will feel hunger. The good news is that if you learn what foods to eat to satiate that hunger, you will adapt and feel less hungry as you progress through the diet. Drinking about 80oz of water everyday will also help curb that appetite.

I guess the saying is true: "if it were easy, everybody would be doing it." I know how hard it is to lose weight. The quick and easy route to weight loss is most likely the last one that should be chosen. It's been my experience during both periods that I lost over 100lbs that hunger was a part of it, but not the whole. My body had to change to get me where I wanted to be.

If it is your goal to lose weight this year or at any time, you will find no bigger fan or cheerleader than me. I know what it's like to not fit into clothes or having to use the extended seat belt on an airplane. Please consult your doctor on your situation and what diet would work best for you. Then, be committed to that plan. The greatest weapon to defeat the hunger is determination. I am rooting for you!
