Gregory Wetherbee is a US Geological Survey researcher who was analyzing rainwater collected in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. He says he made the discovery by accident, only expecting to find soil and mineral particles.

Gregory Weatherbee told the Guardian:

“I think the most important result that we can share with the American public is that there’s more plastic out there than meets the eye. It’s in the rain, it’s in the snow. It’s a part of our environment now.”

These plastics have been found in the deepest parts of the ocean and have been shows to harm the sealife. More research is needed to find out the effect this is having in our Colorado mountains.
