A piece of steel, pulled from the twisted wreckage of the World Trade Center was delivered to Fort Collins on Oct. 24, 2015. The 5-foot-long, 3,059-pound piece of metal traveled 1,800-miles on a four-day journey in October 2015, from a New York Port Authority warehouse to Poudre Fire Authority Station 4 on West Drake Road.

Thanks to hundreds of hours of work by PFA staff members, as well as the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund and State of New York’s Port Authority, along with dozens more supporters, the firefighters’ desire can become reality through construction of a future, permanent 9/11 memorial at PFA’s Station 3, which abuts Spring Park in Midtown Fort Collins.

Poudre Fire Authority Memorial Ceremony

This September 11 is the 15th anniversary of the tragic attacks on American soil. The public is invited to a memorial event on Sunday (9/11/16), from 1 to 5 p.m., at Spring Park, just behind Poudre Fire Authority Station 3 at 2000 Mathews St. in Fort Collins.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

  • 1 to 3 pm: People may come to the station for a viewing of a beam.
  • 3 pm: Honor Guard will open the ceremony. Attendees will hear from PFA Division Chief of Operations Rick Vander Velde and others, who will speak to the honor and meaning of one day erecting a memorial behind Station 3 – with the beam as the centerpiece.
  • After opening ceremony until 5 pm: People will be able to talk with firefighters who deployed to the World Trade Center following Sept. 11, as well as those who were part of the beam’s journey. They will also have an opportunity to view artist renderings of the future memorial, and learn more about the beam’s journey to Fort Collins.
