Poudre Fire Swiftwater Rescues Person Stuck in Poudre River
Poudre Fire Authority rescued a female near Old Town Tuesday afternoon. Just before 1 p.m., PFA tweeted that they were en route to the Linden Street bridge to help someone trapped on a small island in the Poudre River, reportedly 'stuck, but stable.'
One hour later, PFA shared via Twitter that they were able to get the stranded person safely to shore, and with no injuries.
PFA did not share how the person got stranded, but this time of the year, with the hot days, more Fort Collins residents are using the Poudre River recreationally. Last 4th of July, PFA shared that nine rafters were rescued from the river at one time; one was medically transported by helicopter. At that time, they had already responded to 21 water rescues in 2019.
Fortunately, PFA is highly trained for Swiftwater rescues, and just last month were seen doing practice drills at the new whitewater park close to where this patient was stranded.
