In mid-July, the principal of Irish Elementary Escuela Bilingüe School in north Fort Collins was in hot water over a Facebook comment. That heat has returned.

In July of 2020, Lindsey Walton, the principal of Irish Elementary Escuela Bilingüe School, made a comment on Facebook about President Trump which garnered a lot of discourse over 1st Amendment rights vs. 'hate speech.'

According to the Coloradoan, a 'handful' of protesters were outside the school on Tuesday night (August 25, 2020) demanding that the principal (entering her 10th year at Irish) be fired over the comment, in which she implied that she wished President Trump would die from COVID-19.

With the start of the school year coinciding with the Republican National Convention this week, it's easy to see how emotions can escalate.

The Coloradoan reports that there were opinions on both sides of the issue at the protest: those who want the principal fired or to face other disciplinary actions, and those who said that Walton made a mistake and it's time to move on.
