Recipe Rescue: Baked Monte Cristo for Any Meal of the Day
If you have denied yourself the beloved Monte Cristo Sandwich because of the massive amounts of calories, think again. Okay, so there isn't any real way to bring it down to the calories in celery, but when you can save a few, let's eat!
BAKED MONTE CRISTO SANDWICH RECIPE
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed and rolled out one inch each way
- Mustard
- Mayonnaise
- Raspberry Jam
- 1/2 a pound of Black Forest Ham (or whatever your favorite is)
- 4 good slices of Aged Swiss Cheese (or your favorite Swiss/Swiss-like cheese such as Gruyere or Jarlsberg)
Section the puff pastry into four pieces and start assembling your Monte Cristo. Coat one piece with mayonnaise and the other with mustard. Lay a piece of cheese down on each piece, then the ham on one piece. Top the ham with a thin layer of Raspberry Jam and put the pieces together, the ingredients will make two complete sandwiches.
Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or sprayed with cooking spray and at 400 degrees until golden brown. If you'd like, crack one egg in a small bowl with a tablespoon of water, beat and brush over the top of your puff pastry, this will give it a shiny golden brown color.
Serve with more jam, if you desire and enjoy!
