Rescue crews have recovered the remains of an Air Force Officer who went hiking and then went missing on July 24.

Dan Wallick was just a 41-year-old lieutenant colonel who was hiking two 14ers: Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point.

Custer County Search And Rescue lead the rescue op with some other agencies.

KTVV stated that, "search and rescue teams from Saguache, Fremont and Custer counties, as well as the Western State Mountain Rescue Group, participated in the ground search, with aerial assistance from Flight for Life, National Guard, and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control aircraft. Storms reportedly hindered search efforts Friday."

A helicopter located Wallick's body Saturday July 27. Due to severe weather, his remains weren't allocated until Sunday, July 28.
