Big Thompson Canyon

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims of last week's fatal rollover crash in the Big Thompson Canyon.

The State of Colorado decided to build U.S. 34 in 1931. Construction came in small sections over the next few years so traffic could still pass through the canyon.

144 people died because of the amount and force of the water.

The project on US Highway 34 through the Big Thompson Canyon is almost completed. Last May’s reopening of the canyon marked the end of all long-term closures.
