I finally got the upper hand in this battle of storage space.

While everyone has been upgrading their phones to the new iPhone X, I have remained loyal to my iPhone 6. Even typing that I can hear you calling me a dinosaur. You know it's bad when you don't remember the year you got your phone. I haven't had any issues with it (knock on wood), aside from replacing the battery and most recently, storage space.

These last few months have been a balancing act of what can I keep and what can go.

It all came to a head when I couldn't even update my phone without plugging into iTunes and freeing up some space. I had had enough of deleting photos and apps. So, I jumped on the Internet to see what I could find out about storage. The biggest thing was this "Other" category of storage that was taking up way too much space.

So I Googled "How to delete other storage" and this video popped up:

Since I wasn't near a computer to plug into and restore my phone, I opted for the idea of deleting apps and reloading them. Let me stop here for a second and say that you shouldn't follow the advice of just anyone out there on the Internet, but the logic behind this made sense to me and I thought if I tried with with an app I didn't really care about then it was okay to experiment. Of course, I was a little hesitant to do this because I was worried about losing important data. Further more, I didn't want to lose my place in games that I have been playing for years (here's looking at you, Wizard of Oz Magic Match).

Guys, it worked.

I was able to free up over 2G of space. The idea is that sometimes apps hold onto data that they don't need anymore. When you delete and reload them, they restart with the data they need and dump the fluff. Although I did have to re-log into my social apps, I didn't lose anything important and I'm still happily on level 486 on Magic Match.
