The ‘Greatest Country Song’ Celebrates 38th Anniversary [VIDEO]

It was on this date in 1980 that the song that many consider the greatest country song ever recorded hit the number one spot on the charts. The country classic 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' by George Jones hit the number one 38 years ago back in 1980. George never dreamed the song would even be a hit yet alone be considered the greatest country song of all time. This was such an iconic hit for George that Alan Jackson even sang it at George's funeral.

Here are a couple of versions of that all time great. Now, although most consider this the greatest country song of all time I actually have one that I think is on an equal playing field. I agree 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' is one of the five best of all time but my all time favorite comes from another George..Strait. I consider 'The Chair' the best of all time.
