We all know smoking is one of the number one ways to hurt your health and contract lung cancer. A new study from Wallet Hub shows us the devastating toll smoking can take on your finances, too.

Since 1964, smoking-related illnesses have killed more than 20 million people in the U.S.

However, that's not the only issue. Smoking costs the United States $300 billion dollars every year, in everything from medical care to lost productivity.

Wallet Hub says this on their website:

WalletHub looked into the true per-person cost of smoking in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. We calculated the potential monetary losses — including both the lifetime and annual cost of a cigarette pack per day, health care expenditures, income losses and other costs — brought on by smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke.
