On Friday, October 27 I packed a bag for an overnight sleep study at the UCHealth Sleep Lab at Poudre Valley Hospital. I needed to find out if I have sleep apnea. On Thursday, November 16 I visited Dr. Mark Landmeier's office at UCHealth Pulmonology to find out the results of the sleep study.

I guess I wasn't surprised by the results. I was diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. According to Dr. Landmeier, I stopped breathing 37 times every hour, which put me into the severe category.

What Now?

I now have to be fitted for a CPAP machine. CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure, which means it constantly blows air into the back of my throat while I sleep, to keep the airways open. I chose the nasal pillows because I couldn't stand having the full mask over my face. It was too claustrophobic. I am hoping for great things. Brian has promised me this will change my life. I could use the change.
