The CBS All Access limited series The Stand is based on Stephen King's 1978 novel by the same name, but in 2020, this one hits a little close to home. King, who also penned The Shining, which was inspired by Estes Park's Stanley Hotel, has another horror story partially set in Colorado. But this time, the post-apocalyptical plot is centered around a global plague.

'The novel opens with a soldier escaping a top-secret military facility as a plague has been unleashed that kills everyone around him,' Rolling Stone wrote in its (mixed) review of the show. 'He grabs his wife and daughter, and takes off into the night, unwittingly spreading this superflu (soon known as Captain Trips) around the entire world, until only a tiny fraction of the global population has survived.'

I know, right? The trailer (below) even uses the phrase 'uncertain times.' The limited series stars Whoopi Goldberg, James Marsden, Alexander Skarsgård and more, and premieres on CBS All Access on Thursday, December 17.
