Being an avid skier myself, one of my life's bucket list items was to hit the slopes and experience some of that world-famous Colorado powder myself.

With last year being our first full winter in the Centennial State and with the COVID stuff still hanging over our heads, I didn't make it out last year. But now, there is a little more incentive to check out one spot in particular that's been recently ranked as the top ski resort in the United States: Winter Park, Colo.

According to 9 News, Winter Park was crowned with this honor for the third time by the readers of USA Today by beating out 19 other resorts around the country. Copper Mountain was the only other Colorado resort to make the list at #6.

A Winter Park spokesperson had this to say about the honor:

USA Today readers represent our guests across the country, and our top priority is to make sure every guest has an amazing time at Winter Park, no matter what adventure they choose," said Liz Agostin, Winter Park Resort vice president of marketing. "Whether they ski or snowboard, tube or snowshoe, or are really good at après, we’re honored they chose Winter Park as their favorite.

So what exactly makes Winter Park stand out the most in a state that has places like Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, Telluride, and so many others?

It's not just the awesome powder which Winter Park gets an abundance of - an average of about 326 inches per year - but it's also the fact that there are over 3000 skiable acres throughout the resort with 166 trails and various levels.

Plus, if you don't necessarily want to ski or snowboard, there are plenty of other activities to do including things like tubing, ice skating, various sunset and stargazing tours, and snowbike fun.

If you've never seen or heard of a snowbike, they're pretty awesome and something you should try at least once, in my humble opinion. Check it out:

Looks pretty fun right? So with all of the great things that Winter Park has to offer, the best thing about Winter Park just might be the convenience factor.

The resort sits just about an hour away from Denver, so from Downtown Windsor, it's a pretty easy two-hour drive with prices that won't break the bank like some of the other big-name resorts in Colorado.

So as we plan our winter adventures this year, I'm definitely putting Winter Park on my list, if for no other reason than to experience this particular run that goes from the summit - about 12,000 feet - down to the lodge.

So beautiful:
