As Taste of Fort Collins has shifted from the CSU Oval to Old Town Square to its current spot in Washington Park, one organization continues to pay forward the popular annual summer festival all year round.

Townsquare Media's Taste of Fort Collins, now in its 23rd year, has benefited the Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club of Fort Collins Foundation every year but the inaugural event.

The storied organization with about 40 local chapter members emphasize working with youth. The group helps with service projects, packing meals, educational services and organizes an annual event that teaches underprivileged youth how to fish.

"It is very enjoyable watching youth become young adults and leaders in our community," said Bob Garretson, an Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club of Fort Collins Foundation member for the past 30 years.

The local chapter meets weekly on Tuesday mornings at the Drake Center for coffee and doughnuts. Some youth that worked with the organization in the past have gone on to join themselves.

Kiwanis clubs exist in more than 80 countries and feature about 600,000 total members.
