Top 5 Places to View Fall Colors In Fort Collins [PICTURES]

Right now is a great time to watch the leaves turn in Northern Colorado. The mountains reached their peak a few weeks ago, but here along the front range, we still have a couple weeks left. I have compiled a list of "The Best Place in Fort Collins to View Fall Colors". This list could have easily contained every natural area and every park in Fort Collins, but these are my favorites:

5.  Mountain Avenue

Mountain Avenue is one of the most historic streets in Fort Collins. There are a lot of older houses and quaint bed & breakfasts, not to mention a historic trolley that runs up and down the street. However, what really makes the street beautiful is the trees. I have always loved how the trees come together to form a canopy to cover the entire street.  Mountain Avenue is #5 on my list of "The Best Place in Fort Collins to View Fall Colors".

4. CSU Oval

The CSU Oval is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Fort Collins. The Oval circles around to the front steps of the administration building at Colorado State University. Its trees are big and old and is a sight to behold as the leaves turn from green to gold. The CSU Oval is #4 on my list.

3. City Park

Fort Collins City Park is a no-brainer!  It is spectacular!  It has been a city park since the early 1900s and many of the trees have been there since the beginning.  Sheldon Lake is right in the middle of the park, which adds to the beauty and is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the fall foliage. It's #3 on my list.

2. Riverbend Ponds

The Riverbend Ponds welcome you to Fort Collins as you come off I-25 onto Prospect Road. You can see Horsetooth Rock and the Poudre River from the ponds. It really is gorgeous. It was a spot that really wasn't on my radar, until my wife and I stopped to to take a walk one afternoon. I'm glad we did. The Riverbend Ponds are my #2 and could easily be #1.

1. Spring Creek Trail

I walked the Spring Creek Trail on Saturday from Shields to the Gardens at Spring Creek. I knew  the trail would be on my list. I didn't know it would be the "Top Spot to View Fall Colors in Fort Collins", until I took that walk. Pick any spot along the trail to watch the colors turn and you won't be disappointed.The trail follows Spring Creek through several parks for 7 miles. It eventually meets up with the Poudre River and the Poudre Trail , which could easily make my list as well.
