Much-needed rain fell from the skies Friday and Saturday, helping stall the growth of the Cameron Peak Fire.

A quarter inch rained down on the 23,000-acre fire on Friday (Aug. 28). More scattered thunderstorms fell on Saturday (Aug. 30).

Planning Operations Section Chief Tom Barter said "there was not much growth" thanks to the weekend precipitation.

More than 700 firefighters continue to work on the flames, Official Cameron Peak Fire Media. Crews are working to secure and protect nearby structures.

Recently, the Red Cross suggested in an exclusive Townsquare Media interview that the fire may burn until the first snowfall.
