On the morning of May 1, an incident near Timnath forced many commuters to find an alternate route, as the intersection of East Harmony Road and Weitzel Street remained closed for nearly 1.5 hours.

Around 5:23 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office received a report of a vehicle that had been stolen from the Murphy USA gas station, located at 4551 Weitzel Street in Timnath. The vehicle's owner went inside the business, leaving their Subaru running outside. During this time, a woman was dropped off at the gas station by a blue Ford Mustang. The woman then proceeded to steal the Subaru and fled westbound on East Harmony. The blue Mustang also fled the scene.

A little over an hour later, at about 6:45 a.m. a Sheriff's deputy saw a Mustang matching the description from the earlier incident in the Costco parking lot, at 4705 Weitzel Street. When the deputy approached, the Mustang sped away through the parking lot and traveled northbound on Weitzel Street, running the red light on East Harmony. As the Mustang sped through the intersection, it collided with a pickup truck that was traveling eastbound.

The adult, male driver of the Mustang was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries that were sustained during the crash. Once released from the hospital, deputies will seek criminal charges against the driver. Another passenger of the Mustang, Brianna Lynn Reed, of Casper, Wyoming, was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene. Furthermore, Reed was also identified as the woman suspected of stealing the Subaru from the gas station earlier that morning, and she was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (class 4 felony), Vehicular Eluding Complicit (class 4 felony), and Theft (class 5 felony). No bond has been set for Reed at this time. A second female passenger of the Mustang was also treated for minor injuries on scene, but no criminal charges were sought. The adult, male driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and has been released.

At this time, the Subaru has not yet been recovered.
