A hay fire that broke out in a barn during the early morning of Thursday, December 12, in Weld County is currently under investigation.

Platteville-Gilcrest Fire received reports about a fire around 4:39 a.m. Crews from Fort Lupton and Frederick Firestone Fire also assisted on scene to help battle the blaze. During this time, County Road 19 from Weld County Road 26 to 28 remained closed.

According to the Denver Post, there was at least 800 tons of hay burning inside of the barn. Although the incident just occurred, early estimates from the Chief of the Platteville-Gilcrest Fire Department note that damages could potentially range from $240,000 to $250,000.

Fortunately, no humans or animals were injured during the early morning blaze. At this time, it is still unclear how the fire was started.
