It just seems like that Windsor's sports complex dreams keep getting crushed. In the latest problem, Weld County has changed their minds on the financing.

It seems like just yesterday, we were talking about the giant sports village that was going to be built near Highway 257 and County Road 72.

The Colorado National Sports Park would have nearly 70 ballfields, minor league stadiums, restaurants, lodging, shopping and more.  I was excited about it; I was even thinking about trying to get a part-time job as a stadium announcer.

That project was scaled back in September of 2018; and turned into an upgrade of the existing Diamond Valley Sports Complex on the east side of town, making it a multipurpose sports complex named 'Future Legends Sports Complex.'

The developer of Future Legends was going to submit for $20 million in financing that's available when doing energy-efficient upgrades as part of commercial projects (C-Pace financing.) All was well with that until recently when the Weld County Commissioners pulled out of the project.

According to The Coloradoan, though the Weld County Board of Commissioners had initially signed off on the project in 2017, they no longer do if it's going to use the C-Pace financing, and they withdrew the county's support. That support was a key component of that financing.

So now, Windsor and the developer are scrambling to find other financing options that Weld County would be agreeable to.

I'm sure that the current COVID-19 crisis does not help this project at all.
