Ever since Colin Firth won the Oscar for his performance in "The King's Speech", I have wanted to see the movie!  My father-in-law saw it and liked it.  My Facebook friends saw it and liked it! Obviously member's of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences liked it! Am I going to  buck the trend? No. Not at all! I loved the movie.  It is a little slow, but my wife and I really enjoy a movie with a little slower pace once in a while.  There are not many explosions and car chases in this movie....O.K. There aren't any!  It doesn't need any.

The movie was very cleverly written and Colin Firth was perfect as the stuttering King George VI (Queen Elizabeth's father).  Geoffrey Rush was brilliant as the speech therapist Lional Logue.  The best scenes were between them; especially the swearing scenes.  Yes, there is some colorful language that won't be appropriate for younger children.  Helena Bonham Carter was just fine as the wife of the King, but honestly any good actress that can do a stuffy British accent could have pulled off that part.

You always wonder in these types of movies just how many liberties the movie-makers are taking.  There are conversations between King George and his wife that nobody could have known about except them and I really doubt if the Royals called Hollywood and said, "I have a great idea for a movie".

I would recommend "The King's Speech" and definitely agree it deserved the Oscar it received for Best Picture.  Have a look at the trailer and you can decide if it looks interesting to you.
