When I heard that Fort Collins was considering banning the use or charging for plastic grocery bags, I was definitely excited. I think that is the kind of move that ushers in real progress. Unfortunately, most people won't change their ingrained habits on their own. Charge a little bit for it, though and they will. Then, they see that it wasn't really that big of a deal to start with, and the world moves forward, even if it's just a little bit.

According to the Coloradoan, The Fort Collins City Council last night decided against pursuing an outright ban on plastic grocery bags. They instead will implement education practices that encourage people to reduce their use of the bags, and to make sure they recycle the bags when they do use them.

The only proposal concerning the plastic bags that was completely quashed was the ban on the bags. City officials are still considering a few other options to reduce the amount of plastic that goes in, through and out of Fort Collins.
