The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) works hard to keep us on the roads, and we thank them for it. Regardless, you'd still be hard-pressed to find anyone who actually likes going to the DMV — sorry guys, it's kind of just how it is.

However, your next trip there might be a little easier.

According to a press release from the Colorado Department of Revenue's Division of Motor Vehicles, Colorado residents no longer have to bring physical proof of their Social Security numbers (SSNs) to the DMV, thanks to a change in federal guidelines.

Instead, residents can verbally recite their SSNs (so make sure you have it memorized). The release noted that this change only applies to those requesting REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses or identification cards.

"For its part, the DMV is happy to streamline the issuance process for Coloradans while staying compliant with the REAL ID Modernization Act," read the release. "The DMV is also working to expand online services, allowing the DMV to bring even more essential services to Coloradans wherever they are."

One of these services is the Appointment Online Check-in feature, which the department launched earlier this month. The feature allows Coloradans to check in for their appointments via text message — and hopefully avoid the DMV's infamous lines.

Residents can also pay traffic tickets, access motor vehicle records, register their vehicles and renew their vehicle registration, licenses, and ID cards virtually.
