Guess God's not a Broncos fan after all. In recent weeks, you may have noticed Colorado's sunrises looking a little more purple than usual, but it's no Instagram filter — it's science.

According to The Denver Channel, researchers at CU Boulder have linked the vivid purple coloration of the sky at sunrise in Colorado to a volcanic eruption in Russia that happened in June, because of the aerosols it released into the atmosphere.

'If you spot the colorful sunrise or sunset, you've seen something fairly rare,' The Denver Channel shared. 'The last similar phenomenon, according to CU Boulder, happened in 1991, when Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines.'

Read more about it here, and if you're lucky (and wake up early enough), maybe you can see it for yourself.
